Bill Gossage's musical career began in his grandmother's kitchen. Ann Skelly, his maternal grandmother, was a traditional Irish fiddle player living in a small Québec town and even at the age of six Bill was accompanying her on guitar. From that point he went on to study violin and later got his degree from Concordia University on double bass. He has played with numerous artists in a wide variety of styles. He has played jazz behind Diane Schuur, Karen Young and three-time Juno Award winner Kim Richardson; blues with Juno winner Ray Bonneville and Atlantic Records legend Harry Vann Walls; African music behind Yaya Diallo (Mali) and Kounou and the Bikutsi Tradition (Cameroon). While performing these and many other diverse projects Bill has become first call bass player in Montréal's folk/roots/traditional music scene. He has toured and recorded with Green Linnets recording artist Orealis, Connie Kaldor, Penny Lang, and Bourbon Gautier.
A constant throughout Bill's career has been collaborating with brother David Gossage and being responsible for the wildest nights on Montréal's Celtic music scene. It is no surprise this has led to the formation of Montréal's new Celtic supergroup: TÜNA. The wealth of musical styles woven into David's original melodies echoes the music he first learned at his grandmother's kitchen table.
